Stockport’s hidden nighttime Ramen bar

March 26th 2026

Yes, everyone’s heard of Wagamama, Tampopo, and Suki Suki, but you may not yet know about Stockport’s secret Ramen bar, which is tucked away above popular coffee shop Ōdiobā.

This discreet little speakeasy, known as Uma, keeps it simple with only three options for starters and three options for mains, but it doesn’t need any more as every dish hits.

Entering the bar and you’re enveloped into a sultry soundscape of funky jazz, with deep dark moody lighting to complement. You could easily just come for the atmos and the decadent cocktails but it’s the food that truly steals the show.

Renowned Manchester chef Nam, formerly behind the well-missed Nam Vietnamese in Ancoats, draws on years of experience and his deep knowledge of Asian cuisine to deliver this exceptional dining experience and has been branded as the place ‘where Japanese comfort meets Stockport soul.’

First off, to tempt your taste buds, choose to share (or keep to yourself) crispy chicken or savoury mushroom gyoza, crunchy edamame, or a vibrant, rainbow-hued bowl of pickles. Bursting with flavour and colour, these starters set the tone for what’s to come.

The star of the show, i.e. the ramen itself. Choose from Miso, Shoyu and Tantanmen then add your accompaniment of teriyaki chicken, chashu pork or tofu then let each mouthful whisk you straight to a bustling Japanese city.
