Rubbish is such a good day out!

Creator of Stockport’s famous plastic bottle cap mural, Caitlin Marie Atherton, has opened her own workspace, the Plastic Shed, at Merseyway shopping centre to help teach others the tricks of her trade.  

 

 

Caitlin, who has featured on the BBC and ITV for her incredible work, is now inviting others to come down to the plastic shed and turn their rubbish into something useful.  

Visitors are asked to bring an old bag of plastic trash with them, which is then shredded and melted down, before being transformed into an item of their choosing. It could be a bowl, a spinner, a ruler, coasters, buttons, combs, plant pots… the list is endless.  

 

 

As well as the recycled plastic product making classes, there’s also 3D printing classes  and art focused classes, teaching Stopfordians how to make their own mini plastic bottle top murals like Caitlin’s. These skills are taught with the intentions that people can take them home and use them again and again. 

 

Having already created the plastic bottle-cap mural opposite the Stockport Air Raid Shelters from 60,000 bottle tops, Caitlin is something of a dab hand at turning old rubbish into something beautiful.  

 

 

Alongside Caitlin, co-founders Rachel Lewis and Camilla Reghenzi are working to educate local people about the positive impact they can have on the environment. In addition to running the workshops, the trio accept waste donations from the community and organise group litter picks and foraging events.
