Michelin Guide restaurant gets fresh new name, look and menu

August 23rd 2026

Get ready, this beauty opens Wednesday 26 August.

Described as “a celebration of the culture of the eternal city,” the bar will pay homage to the incredible flavours, textures and time-honoured techniques of Rome’s chefs. Located at 71 Great Underbank, the bar will be opened by Cantaloupe’s same owners, Joshua Reed-Cooper and Mike Thomas, who have so far revealed little details about what’s in store for the new venture and the new name.

The pair are hoping that the place will become their “own little rione of Rome,” serving a wide selection of great wines, beers and cocktails, all inspired by the Italian aperitivi culture.

The dishes announced so far promise a proper taste of Rome with a selection of fritti, pizza Romana Tonda and a host of other creations inspired by some of the Italian capital’s much-loved restaurants.

Expectations are high for the new venture, following the pair’s success with both Cantaloupe and Where the Light Gets In.

Cantaloupe only opened in November 2024, but within its first year had already earned a place in the Michelin Guide, so if their track record is anything to go by, Bar Caput could be one to watch.

Opens Wednesday 26 August, so watch this space.
