Like we didn’t already know, Stockport is becoming ‘the place to move to’ for Manchester’s creatives. And now, Stopford has been named among the coolest neighbourhoods in the UK.

According to the TimeOut guide this October, anyone living near Manchester might have heard a rumour that Stockport is the new Berlin, thanks to cheaper rent and some serious suburban tenacity.

Coming in at fourth on the list, Stopford was pipped by the likes of Govanhill in Glasgow, Newington Green in London, and Old Market in Bristol.

Setting out central Stockport and Underbanks as one of the places most worthy of praise, contributing writer Kyle MacNeill spotlights the transformation of the cobbled high street, once home to hat-makers and hosiers, now a bustling hub of forward-thinking vendors.

TimeOut encourages visitors to throw themselves into Stockport’s unique Euro-style café culture, mid-century décor, sustainable fine-dining, small plate snacking and chic drinking dens – and we couldn’t agree more.

Having mapped out a perfect day in ‘Stocky’, the guide recommends starting your day by sampling the continental café culture at queue-magnet Sticky Fingers or artisan bakery Yellowhammer before a day-making breakfast at Auntie Lou’s.

Celebrating 20th century design, the Vintage Village at Market Place will immerse visitors in Stockport’s love of all things vintage, and is a must-do, taking place every second Sunday of the month.

However, what gives a neighbourhood that ‘cool status’? The list was curated by the magazine’s writers and considered factors such as culture, new openings, growth and food and drink.

Council bosses described the accolade as “another fantastic recognition for our town centre and everyone who has played a part in making Stockport such a vibrant place to live, visit, eat, drink, shop and explore.”
